Sujit Choudhry’s Views on How to Overcome Constitutional Challenges

On July 10, 2017, a major debate took place in Kiev to discuss the nation’s semi-presidential system government and the current constitutional challenges it is facing. The participants includeda prominent international legal expertSujit Choudhry together with other prominent legal experts.The discussion was hosted by various groups like the center of policy and legal reform and other global intergovernmental organizations that promote democracy. Choudhry noted factors such as a powerful presidency, the parliamentary electoral system, and lack of strong political parties as factors responsible for unstable democratization in Ukraine.

Sujit Choudhry has previously participated in such discussions in different countries. He said it is crucial for constitutional experts only to consider policy based options in their work of supporting legal reforms. He has compiled academic and classic articles on matters related to constitution and named the document Sujit Choudhry’s “constitution Making.”

Other prominent people who took part in the debate are Thomas Sidelius from Dalarna University, the president’s representative in Supreme Court Viktor Musiaka and SumitBisarya from International IDEA. Who Is Choudhry?

Sujit Choudhry is a constitutional advisor with experience spanning over two decades. Between 1992 and 1994, he joined the McGill University for his a degree in Bachelor of Science. He then joined the University of Oxford and then the University of Toronto before joining Harvard Law School for his Master of Laws between 1997 and 1998. Additional article on law.nyu.edu

Currently, he works as the professor of law at the University of California’s Berkeley School of Law. He also works at the Center for Constitutional Transition as the director. He has participated as an advisor in various constitution building processes in different countries such as Libya, Nepal, South Africa, and Ukraine among others. Previously, Sujit Choudhry has worked at the New York University School of Law. Furthermore, he has worked at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Sujit Choudhry: Constitutional Law Expert and Attorney

As an expert at constitutional law, it is not unusual for Sujit Choudhry to be asked to speak at events and even go to different countries so that he can help the people who are in those countries learn about the constitutional laws.
