Mike Heiligenstein currently is leading the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. He also helps with all of the development of infrastructure that is taking place in Central Texas. This company is an independent government agency. It was started in 2002. The goal of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is to design a modern and a regional transportation network for all of Central Texas.
Heiligenstein also is an elected official in Williamson County where he helps to lead the efforts to expand water as well as wastewater and also transportation infrastructure. He has been doing this for the past 23 years. While doing this, he has also served on their regional MPO as well as the Austin-San Antonio Corridor Council. In 2014, Heiligenstein was selected by his peers to become the President of the International Bridge. He also was selected as the President for the Tunnel and Turnpike Association. He is continuously called to speak to many different groups and he is known for his commitment to his approach of problem solving.
There was a discussion in the Austin, Texas area that focused on the different transportation challenges that the area’s suburban regions face. Mike Heiligenstein was included in this discussion. Heiligenstein, as well as the others included, made sure to center this specific discussion on the different ways that technology is currently changing the look of transportation. Heiligenstein believes that Austin and the surrounding areas needs to invest more in growing their transportation capacity.

Heiligenstein stated that Williamson County has done and is doing a great job of structuring it’s infrastructure. However, there are constantly going to be more and more people continuing to come to the area.
The roads need to be made to be more efficient as well as more advanced. Austin’s growth rate is eventually going to nullify any of the improvements from the mass transit usage increase, which is why it is critical to continue focusing on roads.
