Sujit Choudhry

Sujit Choudhry is famously known for his passion for law. He pursued his bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford before joining Harvard University for the masters. His career started as a law clerk of the chief justice of Canada. Later he became a professor in Berkeley Law School where he also served as a dean. Sujit resigned from the institution after he was accused of assaulting a student sexually. However, he later sued the University because of the accusations and was declared innocent. He is mostly interested in writing articles, books, and journals concerning political reforms which are used globally by law students. Check

Sujit has served several countries as a legal adviser for several years due to his knowledge and belief in comparative constitutional law. These countries include; Libya, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Egypt and South Africa (  Moreover, he played a large part in the drafting of the Canadian constitution. Currently, he is part of the leadership committee of global research projects dealing with issues like security and democratic transitions.

Sujit Choudhry joined constitutional experts in July to discuss issues pertaining the Ukraine government. This issues included the presidential system and the challenges facing it. The workshop’s hosts were; Intergovernmental organizations, the center of policy and legal reforms and the international institute for democracy and electorate assistance. During the discussion, Sujit stated that the democracy policy had been unimplemented in Ukraine. Moreover, he credited the failure to the country’s legislature, poor presidential power concentration, and the electoral bodies. In regards to this, Sujit suggested that it would be beneficial to involve leaders who are constitutionally oriented when setting policies regarding constitutional amendments and reforms (  His thoughts were hugely supported by other diplomats whose opinions were essential due to their extensive constitutional and law knowledge.

Over the years, Sujit has given lectures globally and has gone ahead to put down The Constitutional Making which is a book that consists of articles of the constitution and laws. Sujit is the director of The Center of Constitutional Transitions whose goal is to come up with information that will assist in constitution building and educate people on it. This institution also partners with other organizations like global networks, NGOs and think tanks which ensure that the goal is met.
