Sujit Choudhry’s Thoughts on the Relevance of the Center for Constitutional Transitions

Sujit Choudhry is a legal expert who specializes in constitution review matters. He also plays a founding role in the Center for Constitutional Transitions. In his recent interview with CEOCFO Magazine, he said that the institution usually generates and mobilizes basic and complex knowledge on the Constitution. He also stated that the Center for Constitutional Transitions produces policy options based on evidence to be used in decision making and agenda based research.

In the interview, Choudhry also mentioned that the legal institution has worked with more than 50 legal experts from 20 countries. His work involved helping the countries in amending present constitutions and writing new ones.

Choudhry believes that several questions are asked nowadays regarding constitutional transitions. According to him, the answers to these questions are missing because of incomplete, non-existing and outdated knowledge. He perceives that the Center for Constitutional Transitions was established to address these matters.

Sujit Choudhry is certain that his law degrees, acquired from law schools in three different countries, are the key ingredients to his professional excellence. As an immigrant, he went to Oxford, Toronto, and Harvard to pursue law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also attributes his success to his wide range of experience in public policy matters. He acquired this experience as he toured across the globe to learn about political decision-making processes.

Based on the increased interests in the interpretation of the Constitution, Choudhry believes that his law skills can allow him to interpret the Constitution. He uses his comparative constitutional law knowledge to address the challenges to modern liberal democratic constitutionalism.
